As the Controller, you will oversee auditing, record-keeping, budgeting, tax, and accounting functions for the financial institution. You will provide recommendations on budget, profit forecasts, and operational changes, assist in analyzing new branch sites and closures, and manage funds and the investment portfolio. You will also make substantial contributions to formulating bank-wide policies and goals and directing accounting and regulatory reporting functions.

Responsibilities:

Senior Leadership:

  • Member of the senior management team, contributing to overall policies, procedures, and goals.
  • Leads committees on Financial Risk, Management, Audit, Technology, and Compliance.
  • Supervises Staff Accountant.
  • Acts as liaison with regulatory authorities during audits and examinations.

Financial Strategy and Planning:

  • Develops and executes financial strategies aligned with the bank’s objectives.
  • Compiles monthly board reports and presentations.
  • Leads the annual budgeting process, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Monitors financial performance and proposes strategic recommendations for growth and efficiency.

Financial Reporting and Analysis:

  • Prepares and reviews monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
  • Ensures accuracy and timeliness of financial reports, including income statements and balance sheets.
  • Analyzes financial statements, provides insights on performance, and prepares executive-level presentations.

Risk Management and Compliance:

  • Implements policies and procedures to manage financial risk.
  • Identifies and assesses risks to lending, investments, and financial activities.
  • Ensures compliance with laws, regulations, and accounting standards.
  • Collaborates with auditors to facilitate audits and ensure compliance.

Treasury and Cash Management:

  • Oversees treasury activities, including liquidity management and cash flow forecasting.
  • Controls the bank’s cash position and develops strategies to minimize capital costs.
  • Monitors and manages the investment portfolio, optimizing performance.
  • Monitors net interest margin and critical performance indicators.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; advanced degree (MBA, CPA, CFA) is preferred.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in accounting, preferably in community banking.
  • Strong understanding of banking operations, financial instruments, and regulatory requirements, including the preparation and filing of quarterly call reports.
  • Experience with the reconcilement of Fed Accounts
  • Proficient in financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills for interpreting complex financial data.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing financial risks and ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills to motivate high-performing teams.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting and analysis.
  • Proficiency in financial software and tools, including ERP systems, Microsoft Excel, and economic modeling software.
